Forensic medical expertise was founded in Quebec in 1975 by Dr. Paul-Henri Crevier, neurosurgeon, of the "Syndicat professionnel des experts médico-légaux du Québec - SPEX" (Professional Union of Forensic Medical Experts of Quebec), an initiative that would inspire similar developments across Canada.
Over the years, this learned society has pursued ongoing reflection on the various aspects of this specialty and has provided continuing education.
This book traces the Society's various stages since its creation and bears witness to the evolution of forensic medical expertise practice in Quebec.
Denis Goulet, associate professor and lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal, has published numerous books, book chapters, and articles on the history of medicine. He is also an associate professor in the History Department at UQÀM and received the Jason A. Hannah Medal from the Royal Society of Canada in 1996.
